Homeopathy San Diego
from:THE HISTORY OF HOMEOPATHY
Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) began his first homeopathic experiments in 1790 when he became disillusioned with the harsh medical practices of the day, such as purging, bloodletting and the use of toxic chemicals.
Hahnemann, a German physician and chemist, began a quest for a better way of providing healthcare using the principles of “similars”. He became fascinated with a species of South American tree bark (cinchona) which was used to treat malaria-induced fever. After ingesting the bark, Hahnemann discovered it caused symptoms similar to malaria. He continued his search into cures and the idea of “similar suffering” and began compiling his findings. Similia similibus curentur, the Latin phrase meaning “let likes be cured by likes,” is the primary principle of homeopathy. A homeopath searches for a “remedy” that produces in a healthy person those same symptoms a patient experiences.
The first homeopathic medical school was founded in the United States in the late 1800s. The school’s method of treatment was very popular in the early 1900s, successfully treating the many rampant diseases at the time – including typhoid, cholera and scarlet fever.
In the early 1920s many of the homeopathic schools closed, as the modern drug companies and the American Medical Association became more popular and trusted. Although the United States experienced a dwindling interest in homeopathy, Europe and Asia experienced a steady growth of teachings and interest. Homeopathy has a particularly strong following in Russia, Switzerland, Mexico, India, Germany, England, Italy, the Netherlands and South America.
Homeopathy’s popularity was revived in the United States in the 1960s, including Homeopathy San Diego. The National Center for Homeopathy in Virginia states that Americans spent 230 million dollars on homeopathic remedies in 1996. It has also been said the sales are rising rapidly at about 12-15% each year. According to a 1999 survey, over 6 million Americans used homeopathy in the previous 12 months. Persons using homeopathy San Diego do so for a variety of reasons. According to studies, many people who seek homeopathic care suffer from a chronic medical condition.
